sleepless in bangkok

Group tours aren't my thing. you get pushed around alot and you feel there's little time for anything. a holiday should be a time when you can just lay back, forget about time, and do what you want. yeah didn't really have a "wow" time. and yeah i'm back from thailand.

if there's one naaiizz quote i'll take from my trip, it's this "cheap thing no good, good thing no cheap". true in many ways but i don't think it applies to beach rd. hahz. that's one place you get cheap and good at the same time. mostly.

some things i don't like buying cheap: i don't buy cheap watches because i don't want to be late; i don't buy cheap shoes because i want to walk; i don't buy cheap sunglasses because i'm on glasses; i don't buy cheap underwear because i don't want balls of fungi. someone reminded me i'd rather buy second-hand underwear than a second-hand DSLR. Cheap here refers to imitation aka pirated rather than cheap as referred to in the dictionary. my rationale for the previous x2 sentence. i'd rather buy second-hand underwear rather than a second-hand DSLR BECAUSE firstly, a second-hand underwear is way cheaper than a second-hand DSLR. secondly, i wouldn't buy a second-hand underwear from someone who has a history of viral infection leading to shrivelled balls or fungi infested crotch leading to toadstools emerging out from what used to be favourable areas or mycelium covered "things". thirdly, compare the 2 items. $1.50 second-hand underwear which has been used for 2 years. $800 NIKON D50 which has been used for 2 years. hands down i'll grab that underwear first. an electronic item for me, has a lifespan of 5 years. splurging $800 on it isn't worth it i think.

anyway, i compare bangkok with an old antenna tv showing a war movie and the antenna gets a bad reception and the screen goes all flickering and noisy while you still get the snippets of war in the midst of the noise and flickers. get it? in summary i wouldn't live in bangkok for 2 straight weeks. yeah it's the best shopping area alright. but all that business and traffic and smoke and movement makes me a little nauseated. a little city sick if i could use that word.

and the hotel in bangkok was displaying signs of ageing. water pipes were making noises at night. so i couldn't really sleep well. refer to title.

and i realised parasailing isn't as exhilirating as i thought. playing a soccer game would give me a thrill factor of 3/5. rock climbing would give me a thrill factor of 3/5. white water rafting would give me a thrill factor of 3.5/5. winning anything would give me a thrill factor of 3/5. but parasailing? i must say it'll go down to 2.5/5. it's just something that you can imagine. you see, when you imagine, you get to see it visually. and you can't feel it. before my ascent, i imagined it, parasailing and seeing the boat infront of me and i thought it must feel "whoa!". but during the actual thing, it was exactly like i imagined. exactly. just visual and no feel. i'm floating on air and i see the water below and the boat in front circling and that's it. so at the end i was just "oooooh kay~". oh well.

the tuk-tuk ride was better. it was thrilling because i was always suspicious with the driver. i couldn't believe he was an honest guy (...prejudice, me,....bloody hell). ok here's abit for you to think about. he goes asking stuff and trying to be friendly (i think),

" so, how long, the flight...singapore to bangkok?"

"erm, 1 hour... and 45 mins." (using my fingers for added visual comunication aid)

a few minutes later..

"there tuk-tuk in singapore?"

"no...got trishaw...cycle cycle" (hands doing cycling action)

10 minutes later

"my family in singapore you know. she fly here every month visit and then go back"

"oh really? i have friend...school in singapore but come back thailand for university"

"oh..ah..."

ok now, if you have a family in singapore, why ask how long was the flight? fishy fishy yes? i thought with a family in singapore he would at least be competent with the details of singapore even though he has never flown there right? i thought he was either lying to me about the family or he was also trying to test my honesty of telling him that i was from singapore. and the ride was 20 baht. it got me smelling tunas and salmons from the start. that's like one singapore dollar. i was imagining him taking us to a quiet corner and taking out the knife and asking for our money. and along the way i was flexing my muscles abit with the hope that he would catch a glimpse of that "i am not to be messed with" image and get intimidated. well, the robbery didn't occur. so maybe it worked? haha...

so thank God i'm back safe and got slightly more than 2 weeks more before NS. am gonna go gym and swim often, ring me up if you wanna join.

before NS, i'm going to reach this:

20 pull-ups in one go.
10.15-10.00 minutes for 2.4km run.
2 laps (50m + 50m) without stopping for swimming.

pray for me please?

ok the next few pictures would be from the thailand trip.

i need a DSLR....
